Description
Subtract exitPeriod from reentryPeriod with exact integers for gapDecimal.
A cumulative counter can increase, wrap, or restart. The difference between two readings is meaningful only under an explicit rollover or reset model and compatible time units.
Subtract exitPeriod from reentryPeriod with exact integers for gapDecimal.
When to use this tool
Use Lead Reentry Period Gap when you need a supplied counter difference or rate convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter exitPeriod, reentryPeriod, periodsPerCycle. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read gapDecimal, sameCycle. Inspect sameCycle before interpreting the associated values.
Subtract exitPeriod from reentryPeriod with exact integers for gapDecimal. Compare their integer quotients by periodsPerCycle for sameCycle.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| exitPeriod | Exit Period | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| reentryPeriod | Reentry Period | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| periodsPerCycle | Periods Per Cycle | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| gapDecimal | Gap Decimal | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| sameCycle | Same Cycle | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Periods are nonnegative and cycles start at zero; negative gaps are allowed and calendar cycle conventions are not inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use reset events, wrap epochs, and monotonic timestamps to resolve ambiguous counter histories.
