Description
Search for a place, explore its surroundings, select geographic coordinates, and open location-based tools such as the Weather Map.
The Tool.io Map lets you search for a place, pan across an area, zoom from a regional view to local detail, and select a point. Use it when a location is easier to understand visually than as a pair of latitude and longitude values.
The current map needs an internet connection to load map details. It is intended for exploration and as the starting point for specialized Tool.io maps; it does not yet provide directions, route planning, or downloadable offline regions.
When to use the Map tool
Type a city or region name to move quickly to it, or navigate manually and click the map to place the marker. The selected point can then be used by a specialized map, such as Weather Map, to show information for that location.

How the Map tool works
Drag the map to move, use the zoom buttons or your mouse wheel or touch gesture to change scale, and select fullscreen when you need more room. Clicking a location moves the blue marker to that point. Search results may include the city, region, and country to help distinguish places with the same name.
The map begins with a broad view centered on Berlin until you search for or select another place. Roads, water, boundaries, and place labels provide context; specialized Tool.io maps add information such as current weather on top of that geographic view.
Basemap and data layers
The ordinary map shows where things are. A specialized map adds another kind of information, such as temperature, wind, precipitation, hazards, or network coverage. Check the title, legend, units, and update time of that added information before interpreting it.
Accuracy, privacy, and offline limitations
Map positions, labels, boundaries, and search results can be incomplete, generalized, outdated, or disputed. A point selected by clicking is an approximate coordinate, not a surveyed measurement. Do not use this MVP as the sole source for navigation, property boundaries, emergency response, aviation, marine operations, or other safety-critical decisions.
- The current basemap requires a network connection and access to the external tile service.
- Searching a place or loading a map can disclose request metadata, including an approximate network location, to external data providers.
- Older devices or browsers with limited graphics support may render the map slowly or fail to display it.
- The map is not currently available offline; previously viewed places may not remain accessible without a connection.
- A selected coordinate does not establish the legal, postal, or administrative identity of a place.
