Art Print Paper Deckle Margin

Subtract explicit image width and equal reserved deckle margins from paper width without recommending print layout.

Description

Calculate remaining side margin after reserving a print's deckle allowance.

Artwork dimensions depend on whether a measurement describes the image, support, window, overlap or reserved edge. Linear enlargement multiplies area by the square and volume by the cube of the scale. A signed clearance or width adjustment retains useful direction information, while a nominal geometric fit still needs material, production and installation context.

Calculate remaining side margin after reserving a print's deckle allowance.

When to use this tool

Use Art Print Paper Deckle Margin when you already have paperWidth, imageWidth, reservedDeckleEachSide and need to calculate remaining side margin after reserving a print's deckle allowance.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter paperWidth, imageWidth, reservedDeckleEachSide. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read remainingMarginEachSide. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative paper/image widths and reservedDeckleEachSide; return (paper-image)/2-reservedDeckleEachSide.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
paperWidthPaper WidthRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
imageWidthImage WidthRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
reservedDeckleEachSideReserved Deckle Each SideRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Assumes centered printing and equal reservations; negative margins are retained, and no trimming or printer tolerance is checked.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check an actual dimensioned layout or calibrated test piece for mounting and production. Use a geometric model for full enlargement or overlap accounting, and physical drawdowns or material tests when thickness behavior matters.
