Description
Preserve unknown diary clock time with a definition flag rather than assigning midnight.
A research diary or bench measurement uses a defined observation window, clock, unit, and reference level. Missing timing, incomplete collection, and unverified measurements affect how a result can be interpreted. Record arithmetic and signal terms describe supplied data without establishing clinical status.
Preserve unknown diary clock time with a definition flag rather than assigning midnight.
When to use this tool
Use Voiding Diary Unknown Clock Flag when you need a research-record or bench calculation with already supplied measurements, units, and observation boundaries.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter hour, minute, clockKnown. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read minuteOfDay, timeDefined. Inspect timeDefined before interpreting the associated values.
Require integer hour from zero through 23 and minute from zero through 59. Return minuteOfDay=hour*60+minute when clockKnown, otherwise zero, along with timeDefined=clockKnown.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| hour | Hour | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0; maximum 23. |
| minute | Minute | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0; maximum 59. |
| clockKnown | Clock Known | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| minuteOfDay | Minute coordinate or zero placeholder when timeDefined is false. | Required. Safe integer. |
| timeDefined | Time Defined | Required. Boolean. |

"output": {

} Limitations and assumptions
- The hour and minute are validated even when the clock is unknown. A false timeDefined makes zero a placeholder, not midnight; no date, time zone, symptom, or diary interpretation is inferred.
- The field tables state structural bounds; the mechanics also specify cross-field constraints. Malformed inputs and unsupported domains cause errors. A successful false flag, empty branch value, or zero placeholder has the meaning stated above and is distinct from an input error.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use an appropriately validated measurement and analysis method for clinical interpretation. Verify diary completeness, clock conventions, and measurement units before combining these terms into a research summary.
