Urban BED Reach Width Margin

Compare explicit bed width with supplied one-sided or two-sided reach without establishing accessibility standards.

Description

Calculate a garden-bed reach margin from one or two accessible sides.

City-garden planning combines nominal container geometry, route lengths, water masses, access sides and shared-resource accounting. A litre quantity becomes mass only with a density, while reach depends on the declared accessible sides. Simple margins and shares organize supplied measurements; material behavior, structural capacity and individual access needs require separate assessment.

Calculate a garden-bed reach margin from one or two accessible sides.

When to use this tool

Use Urban BED Reach Width Margin when you already have bedWidth, reachFromEachSide, accessibleSideCount and need to calculate a garden-bed reach margin from one or two accessible sides.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter bedWidth, reachFromEachSide, accessibleSideCount. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read reachMargin. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative bedWidth/reachFromEachSide and safe whole accessibleSideCount in [1,2]; return reach*sideCount-bedWidth.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
bedWidthBed WidthRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
reachFromEachSideReach From Each SideRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
accessibleSideCountExactly one or two; multiplies the supplied per-side reach.Required. Safe integer; minimum 1; maximum 2.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Assumes straight symmetric reach from declared sides; no actual person's reach, path accessibility or ergonomic suitability is assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Measure the actual bed, container and access routes before applying nominal dimensions. For roof loading or water delivery, use the full support or hydraulic calculation; reconcile volunteer and harvest records over one common accounting period.
