Thrust Sightline

Check thrust-stage seat sightlines against supplied angle and coverage targets.

Description

A thrust-stage sightline check compares individual seat angles with a clearance criterion and aggregate clear-seat coverage with a target.

A thrust-stage sightline check compares individual seat angles with a clearance criterion and aggregate clear-seat coverage with a target. Those are separate comparisons.1

Check thrust-stage seat sightlines against supplied angle and coverage targets.

When to use Thrust Sightline

Use this tool to check thrust-stage seat sightlines against supplied angle and coverage targets.

Prepare the measurements or record lists for the intended production, performer, cohort or planning period. Confirm units, shared time/coordinate conventions and supplied targets.

How to use Thrust Sightline and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measurements or record lists for the intended production, performer, cohort or planning period. Confirm units, shared time/coordinate conventions and supplied targets.
  2. Enter seatSightlineAnglesDegrees, minimumSightlineAngleDegrees, targetClearSeatPercent using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read clearSeatCount, clearSeatPercent, targetMarginPoints, meetsTarget. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
seatSightlineAnglesDegreesThrust-stage seat sightline angleslist of numberRequired
minimumSightlineAngleDegreesMinimum sightline anglenumberRequired
targetClearSeatPercentTarget clear-seat sharenumber; minimum: 0; maximum: 100Required

Supply a nonempty finite seat-angle list, finite minimum angle and target percentage in 0–100. Count inclusively clear seats and return clear percentage, signed percentage-point target margin and inclusive target-met flag.

clear%=100 count(angle≥minimumAngle)/n; marginPoints=clear%−target%

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The tool consumes angles instead of modeling a thrust stage or obstructions. Seats are equally weighted and a passing coverage target can still leave particular seats blocked.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Traverse Sightline: Summarize traverse-stage sightline angles against a supplied clearance minimum. For a complementary task, use Understudy Cover Matrix: Compare caller-supplied expected and observed records for understudy cover matrix.
