Traverse Sightline
Summarize traverse-stage sightline angles against a supplied clearance minimum.
Description
Traverse sightline screening summarizes already measured or modeled viewer angles.
Traverse sightline screening summarizes already measured or modeled viewer angles. A chosen clearance angle determines which seats count as clear.1
Summarize traverse-stage sightline angles against a supplied clearance minimum.
When to use Traverse Sightline
Use this tool to summarize traverse-stage sightline angles against a supplied clearance minimum.
Prepare the measurements or record lists for the intended production, performer, cohort or planning period. Confirm units, shared time/coordinate conventions and supplied targets.
How to use Traverse Sightline and understand its results
- Prepare the measurements or record lists for the intended production, performer, cohort or planning period. Confirm units, shared time/coordinate conventions and supplied targets.
- Enter viewerAnglesDegrees, minimumClearAngleDegrees using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read clearSeatCount, blockedSeatCount, clearSeatPercent, worstAngleDegrees. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| viewerAnglesDegrees | Traverse audience sightline angles | list of number | Required |
| minimumClearAngleDegrees | Minimum clear angle | number | Required |
Enter a nonempty finite angle list and a finite minimum in degrees using the same geometric convention. Count inclusive passes and failures, calculate clear percentage and report the minimum supplied angle. One list entry represents one equally weighted seat.
clear if viewerAngle≥minimumClearAngle; clear%=100 clearCount/seatCount Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| clearSeatCount | Clear seat count | integer; minimum: 0 |
| blockedSeatCount | Blocked seat count | integer; minimum: 0 |
| clearSeatPercent | Clear seat share | number; minimum: 0; maximum: 100 |
| worstAngleDegrees | Worst sightline angle | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
No stage or obstruction geometry is computed and no clearance standard is embedded. Signed angles and criteria are allowed, so their physical interpretation must come from upstream measurement.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Thrust Sightline: Check thrust-stage seat sightlines against supplied angle and coverage targets. For a complementary task, use Vocal Range Transposition Check: Transpose a MIDI-note range and test it against a supplied performer range.
