Transfer Order Received Shortfall

Reconcile explicit transfer dispatch, receipt, and separately recorded in-transit counts without inferring losses.

Description

Calculate a signed unexplained shipment shortfall after received and in-transit units.

Supply-chain counts distinguish individual units, case packs, dispatches, receipts, in-transit stock and returns. A signed residual can expose an inconsistent record rather than prove physical loss. Costs, clearances and expiry/retest dates use separate conventions; accurate arithmetic does not replace stock inspection, material release or contractual review.

Calculate a signed unexplained shipment shortfall after received and in-transit units.

When to use this tool

Use Transfer Order Received Shortfall when you already have dispatchedUnits, receivedUnits, declaredInTransitUnits and need to calculate a signed unexplained shipment shortfall after received and in-transit units.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter dispatchedUnits, receivedUnits, declaredInTransitUnits. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read unexplainedShortfall. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative safe whole counts; calculate dispatched-received-declaredInTransit with BigInt intermediates and export a number.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • A negative residual is retained; the tool neither locates stock nor proves loss. A residual outside the safe-integer output range is rejected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Reconcile item-level dispatch, receipt, return and inventory ledgers against physical stock and lot records. Use actual package dimensions, handling plans and release documents when a quantity margin alone cannot answer an operational question.
