Inventory Receipt Negative Cost Reversal

Apply an explicit receipt reversal sign to supplied quantity and signed unit cost without inferring accounting treatment.

Description

Apply an explicit reversal sign to an inventory receipt quantity and cost.

Supply-chain counts distinguish individual units, case packs, dispatches, receipts, in-transit stock and returns. A signed residual can expose an inconsistent record rather than prove physical loss. Costs, clearances and expiry/retest dates use separate conventions; accurate arithmetic does not replace stock inspection, material release or contractual review.

Apply an explicit reversal sign to an inventory receipt quantity and cost.

When to use this tool

Use Inventory Receipt Negative Cost Reversal when you already have receivedUnits, suppliedUnitCost, reverseReceipt and need to apply an explicit reversal sign to an inventory receipt quantity and cost.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter receivedUnits, suppliedUnitCost, reverseReceipt. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedQuantity, signedCost. Use the output convention below.

Require safe whole receivedUnits>=0; quantity=units*(reverse?-1:1), cost=units*suppliedUnitCost*(reverse?-1:1), retaining a signed unit cost.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
receivedUnitsReceived UnitsRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
suppliedUnitCostSigned supplied cost per unit; reversing the receipt also reverses its cost sign.Required. Finite number.
reverseReceiptReverse ReceiptRequired. Boolean.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
signedQuantitySigned QuantityRequired. Safe integer.
signedCostSigned CostRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The tool does not post transactions, validate valuation policy or determine whether a receipt should be reversed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Reconcile item-level dispatch, receipt, return and inventory ledgers against physical stock and lot records. Use actual package dimensions, handling plans and release documents when a quantity margin alone cannot answer an operational question.
