Speech Cue Pause Duration

Compare explicit cue and response markers without determining an appropriate speech pause.

Description

Measure the signed pause or overlap from a speech cue to a response.

Speech records use different observational units: words, morphemes, tokens, time spans, frequency and symbol-code versions. A duration share differs from a count-based speech measure, and a transcription remains a supplied annotation. Recorded practice completion and communication preferences need their original assessment and consent context before clinical interpretation.

Measure the signed pause or overlap from a speech cue to a response.

When to use this tool

Use Speech Cue Pause Duration when you already have cueEndSeconds, responseStartSeconds and need to measure the signed pause or overlap from a speech cue to a response.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter cueEndSeconds, responseStartSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedPauseSeconds, overlap. Inspect overlap before interpreting the associated values.

Return responseStartSeconds-cueEndSeconds; overlap means responseStart<cueEnd.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

Limitations and assumptions

  • Uses supplied timestamps without audio analysis, clock correction or clinical interpretation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the original audio, transcription and annotation manual when counts or intervals need verification. Apply a complete instrument's stated scoring method for an assessment; retain source-defined word, morpheme, time and symbol conventions throughout.
