Description
Ideal rectangular three-point bend stress/strain and secant modulus from explicit bench geometry.
Dental laboratory and prosthetic research records distinguish measured dimensions, reference targets, material quantities, and evidence flags. Ratios and residuals depend on those measurement conventions. An idealized bench term or metadata match is separate from fabrication quality and clinical fit or suitability.
Ideal rectangular three-point bend stress/strain and secant modulus from explicit bench geometry.
When to use this tool
Use Denture Bench Flexural Span Factor when you need the stated laboratory, bench, geometry, or device-record term from already supplied measurements or annotations.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter force, span, width, thickness, deflection. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read stress, strain, secantModulus. Use the output convention below.
Return stress=3*force*span/(2*width*thickness²), strain=6*deflection*thickness/span², and secantModulus=force*span³/(4*width*thickness³*deflection). Require nonnegative force and positive dimensions and deflection.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| force | Force | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| span | Span | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| width | Width | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| thickness | Thickness | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| deflection | Deflection | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| stress | Force per squared common length unit; N/mm² for N and mm. | Required. Finite number. |
| strain | Dimensionless flexural-strain term. | Required. Finite number. |
| secantModulus | Same force-per-area unit as stress under the ideal beam model. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is an ideal rectangular three-point-bending term. Common length units and force units determine stress/modulus; with newtons and millimeters they are N/mm². Test validity, material safety, and clinical performance are not established.
- The field tables state structural bounds; the mechanics also specify cross-field constraints. Malformed inputs and unsupported domains cause errors. A successful false flag, empty branch value, or zero placeholder has the meaning stated above and is distinct from an input error.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated measurements and an appropriate complete geometric, material, or laboratory method when the task requires more than one bench term. Clinical suitability requires a separate professional assessment.
