Description
Compare a coalition with strict or nonstrict half-seat rules.
Election and representation summaries depend on counting conventions: included ballots, quotas, seat totals, strict majority and source-defined statuses. A half-seat rule differs from an official quorum or certified result. Supplied counts and denominators support transparent arithmetic while legal rules, ballot validity and representativeness require separate evidence.
Compare a coalition with strict or nonstrict half-seat rules.
When to use this tool
Use Coalition Majority Strict Vs Nonstrict Rule when you already have coalitionSeats, totalSeats, strictMajority and need to compare a coalition with strict or nonstrict half-seat rules.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter coalitionSeats, totalSeats, strictMajority. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read meetsRule, halfSeatMargin. Inspect meetsRule before interpreting the associated values.
Require safe whole total>=1 and coalition in [0,total]. Compare 2*coalition with total using BigInt, using > or >=; return coalition-total/2 as margin.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| coalitionSeats | Coalition Seats | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| totalSeats | Total Seats | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| strictMajority | True requires more than half, false accepts equality at half. | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| meetsRule | Meets Rule | Required. Boolean. |
| halfSeatMargin | Half Seat Margin | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The selected rule is supplied; abstentions, vacancies, quorum, chamber rules and coalition formation are outside the calculation.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Consult the governing count procedure and official source records for actual ballot treatment, quotas and majority rules. Reconcile all relevant ballots or seats before extending one share or surplus factor to a complete election or representation result.
