Description
Convert a supplied respiration-cycle interval to period and cycles per minute.
Physiological signals have explicit sampling intervals, polarity, time origins and cycle conventions. One cycle period differs from a robust averaged rate, and wrapped external-clock phase differs from measured biological phase. Supplied markers and gas-reference labels organize data without detecting events or establishing normal physiology.
Convert a supplied respiration-cycle interval to period and cycles per minute.
When to use this tool
Use Respiration Cycle Period Pair when you already have cycleStartSeconds, cycleEndSeconds and need to convert a supplied respiration-cycle interval to period and cycles per minute.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter cycleStartSeconds, cycleEndSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read periodSeconds, cyclesPerMinute. Use the output convention below.
Require end>start; return end-start seconds and 60/period.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| cycleStartSeconds | Cycle Start Seconds | Required. Finite number. |
| cycleEndSeconds | Cycle End Seconds | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| periodSeconds | Period Seconds | Required. Finite number. |
| cyclesPerMinute | 60 divided by one supplied cycle period; not a robust multi-cycle estimate. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- One supplied cycle is not an averaged breathing rate, signal detector or clinical assessment.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the original signal, event markers and acquisition clock when deriving physiological quantities. Use an appropriate multi-cycle or time-varying analysis when a single supplied interval, fixed sampling rate or wrapped external-time phase is insufficient.
