Physiological Sampling Interval Rate

Convert an explicit constant physiological sampling interval in milliseconds to samples per second.

Loading tool…

Description

Convert a positive physiological sampling interval to sample rate.

Physiological signals have explicit sampling intervals, polarity, time origins and cycle conventions. One cycle period differs from a robust averaged rate, and wrapped external-clock phase differs from measured biological phase. Supplied markers and gas-reference labels organize data without detecting events or establishing normal physiology.

Convert a positive physiological sampling interval to sample rate.

When to use this tool

Use Physiological Sampling Interval Rate when you already have intervalMilliseconds and need to convert a positive physiological sampling interval to sample rate.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter intervalMilliseconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sampleRateHz. Use the output convention below.

Require intervalMilliseconds>0; return 1000/interval in Hz.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
intervalMillisecondsPositive fixed sampling interval in ms, giving rate=1000/interval in Hz.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
sampleRateHzSample Rate HzRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Assumes constant sampling; no signal content, acquisition accuracy or adequate sample rate is determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the original signal, event markers and acquisition clock when deriving physiological quantities. Use an appropriate multi-cycle or time-varying analysis when a single supplied interval, fixed sampling rate or wrapped external-time phase is insufficient.
