Tooth Site Observation Denominator Tool

Supplied site-observation inventory only, without imputing periodontal findings.

Description

Supplied site-observation inventory only, without imputing periodontal findings.

Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.

When to use this tool

Use Tooth Site Observation Denominator when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter plannedSites, missingSites, excludedSites, missingExcludedOverlap. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read observedBase. Use the output convention below.

For nonnegative integer plannedSites and bounded missingSites, excludedSites, and missingExcludedOverlap require their union no greater than plannedSites. Return observedBase=plannedSites-missingSites-excludedSites+missingExcludedOverlap.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The overlap corrects double subtraction and must describe the same site universe. The result is a denominator budget, not evidence that remaining sites were observed or examined under a clinical protocol.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
