Description
Research denominator bookkeeping with disjoint supplied exclusions and losses.
Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.
Research denominator bookkeeping with disjoint supplied exclusions and losses.
When to use this tool
Use Tooth Loss Study Base Flag when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter originalTeeth, preExcluded, lost, includeExcluded. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read denominator, fraction, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.
For nonnegative integer originalTeeth, preExcluded within originalTeeth, and lost within originalTeeth-preExcluded choose denominator=originalTeeth if includeExcluded, otherwise originalTeeth-preExcluded. Return fraction=lost/denominator when positive, otherwise zero with defined=false.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| originalTeeth | Original Teeth | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| preExcluded | Pre Excluded | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| lost | Lost | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| includeExcluded | Include Excluded | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| denominator | Denominator | Required. Safe integer. |
| fraction | Dimensionless fraction under the stated basis. | Required. Finite number. |
| defined | Whether the associated denominator or quantity is defined; read before using a zero placeholder. | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The reporting-base choice does not classify which teeth belong in a study. Zero on a zero denominator is a placeholder, and no clinical tooth-loss interpretation is performed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
