Site Grid Observation Gap Tool

Calculate site grid observation gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Deduplicate teeth and requiredSites, form their full Cartesian grid, and count each tooth/site pair once when any matching observed row is true.

Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.

Deduplicate teeth and requiredSites, form their full Cartesian grid, and count each tooth/site pair once when any matching observed row is true.

When to use this tool

Use Site Grid Observation Gap when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter toothIds, siteLabels, observed, requiredSites. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read expectedSites, observedRequiredSites, missingSites. Use the output convention below.

Require aligned toothIds, siteLabels, and observed flags. Deduplicate teeth and requiredSites, form their full Cartesian grid, and count each tooth/site pair once when any matching observed row is true. Return expectedSites, observedRequiredSites, and missingSites.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Only teeth appearing in toothIds define the tooth universe, so entirely absent teeth cannot be detected. Duplicate observations cannot increase coverage, and no clinical chart completeness or measurement validity is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
