Description
Compare explicit tooth-presence research annotations without inferring an unobserved loss date.
Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.

When to use this tool
Use Tooth Presence Interval Gap when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter previousObservedAt, currentObservedAt, previousPresent, currentPresent. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read gap, changed. Inspect changed before interpreting the associated values.
Require currentObservedAt>=previousObservedAt and return gap=currentObservedAt-previousObservedAt and changed=(previousPresent!==currentPresent).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| previousObservedAt | Previous Observed At | Required. Finite number. |
| currentObservedAt | Current Observed At | Required. Finite number. |
| previousPresent | Previous Present | Required. Boolean. |
| currentPresent | Current Present | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| gap | Signed difference under the formula stated above. | Required. Finite number. |
| changed | Changed | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Times need one unit and origin. Two presence flags do not locate a change within the interval, establish tooth loss or eruption mechanisms, or validate a clinical history.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
