Description
Keep baseline and examined denominators explicit after supplied tooth losses.
Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.
Keep baseline and examined denominators explicit after supplied tooth losses.
When to use this tool
Use Periodontal Study Tooth Loss Denominator when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter baseline, lost, excluded, examined, positives, useBaseline. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read retained, denominator, fraction. Use the output convention below.
For integer baseline>=1 and nonnegative lost and excluded require 1<=examined<=baseline-lost-excluded and 0<=positives<=examined. Return retained=baseline-lost-excluded, denominator=baseline if useBaseline otherwise examined, and fraction=positives/denominator.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| baseline | Supplied response level at the model's zero-effect baseline. | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| lost | Lost | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| excluded | Excluded | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| examined | Examined | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| positives | Positives | Required. Safe integer; minimum 0. |
| useBaseline | Use Baseline | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| retained | Retained | Required. Safe integer. |
| denominator | Baseline teeth if useBaseline; otherwise actually examined teeth. | Required. Safe integer. |
| fraction | Dimensionless fraction under the stated basis. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The denominator is either original baseline or actually examined teeth, not the retained count automatically. Eligibility and disjoint lost/excluded categories are supplied rather than independently verified.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
