Description

Bound a supplied research depth using nearest-step resolution plus an independently supplied bounded repeatability term; no disease grading.

Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.

When to use this tool

Use Research Site Depth Resolution when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter recordedDepth, quantum, repeatabilityHalfWidth. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read resolutionHalfWidth, lower, upper. Use the output convention below.

For nonnegative quantum and repeatabilityHalfWidth return resolutionHalfWidth=quantum/2, lower=recordedDepth-quantum/2-repeatabilityHalfWidth, and upper=recordedDepth+quantum/2+repeatabilityHalfWidth.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Depth and halfwidths need one length unit. Bounds can be negative and are additive supplied error envelopes, not statistical confidence intervals or diagnostic thresholds.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
