Description

Scaled distance between supplied research color channels without assigning a color space.

Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.

Scaled distance between supplied research color channels without assigning a color space.

When to use this tool

Use Gingival Research Color Reference Gap when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sample, reference, channelScales. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read differences, scaledDistance. Use the output convention below.

Require aligned nonempty sample, reference, and positive channelScales arrays. Return raw channel differences and scaledDistance=hypot((sample-reference)/channelScales).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Channel units must match their scale factors. This is a supplied normalized Euclidean distance, not a standardized perceptual color difference, tissue classification, or image-based diagnosis.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
