Periodontal Site Pair Laterality Check Tool

Compare explicit side and expected tooth-pair metadata.

Description

Compare explicit side and expected tooth-pair metadata.

Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.

Compare explicit side and expected tooth-pair metadata.

When to use this tool

Use Periodontal Site Pair Laterality Check when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter firstSide, secondSide, firstTooth, secondTooth, expectedFirst, expectedSecond. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sideMatches, toothPairMatches. Inspect sideMatches, toothPairMatches before interpreting the associated values.

Accept firstSide and secondSide as left, right, or midline. Return sideMatches on exact equality and toothPairMatches when firstTooth/secondTooth match the respective expected IDs in order.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The side labels are compared to each other, not anatomically derived from the tooth IDs. No tooth-numbering system, actual laterality, or patient identity is checked.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
