Periodontal CEJ Reference Offset

Reference an explicit site position to a supplied cementoenamel-junction coordinate and apical sign convention.

Description

Calculate a supplied position's apical-positive offset from a CEJ reference.

Periodontal charts distinguish planned, excluded and unmeasured sites, anatomical ordering, reference landmarks and sign conventions. An unassessed site differs from a recorded negative finding, and an apical-positive coordinate needs its stated reference. These local records and corrections do not produce an examination, disease grade or treatment recommendation.

Calculate a supplied position's apical-positive offset from a CEJ reference.

When to use this tool

Use Periodontal CEJ Reference Offset when you already have measuredPosition, cejReferencePosition, positiveIsApical and need to calculate a supplied position's apical-positive offset from a CEJ reference.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measuredPosition, cejReferencePosition, positiveIsApical. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read apicalPositiveOffset. Use the output convention below.

Return (measuredPosition-cejReferencePosition)*(positiveIsApical?1:-1).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
measuredPositionMeasured PositionRequired. Finite number.
cejReferencePositionCej Reference PositionRequired. Finite number.
positiveIsApicalPositive Is ApicalRequired. Boolean.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
apicalPositiveOffsetApical Positive OffsetRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Coordinates share units and origin; no CEJ, attachment level, disease state or clinical finding is detected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the source chart's site order, landmark and sign convention before combining measurements. Apply the full documented examination and scoring method for an assessment; a site label, correction delta or recorded bleeding flag is only one record component.
