Periodontal Recession Sign Label

Crosswalk an explicit gingival-margin distance to an apical-positive sign convention without assessing disease.

Description

Reorient a signed recession distance to an apical-positive convention.

Periodontal charts distinguish planned, excluded and unmeasured sites, anatomical ordering, reference landmarks and sign conventions. An unassessed site differs from a recorded negative finding, and an apical-positive coordinate needs its stated reference. These local records and corrections do not produce an examination, disease grade or treatment recommendation.

Reorient a signed recession distance to an apical-positive convention.

When to use this tool

Use Periodontal Recession Sign Label when you already have signedDistance, positiveMeansApical and need to reorient a signed recession distance to an apical-positive convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter signedDistance, positiveMeansApical. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read apicalPositiveDistance, signLabel. Use the output convention below.

Negate only when positiveMeansApical=false; label positive as apical, negative as coronal and zero as at reference.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The reference and orientation are supplied; this is not a diagnosis, attachment-loss calculation or measurement validation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the source chart's site order, landmark and sign convention before combining measurements. Apply the full documented examination and scoring method for an assessment; a site label, correction delta or recorded bleeding flag is only one record component.
