Description

Apply explicit image and plane correction factors without deriving geometry or tissue findings from a photograph.

Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.

Apply explicit image and plane correction factors without deriving geometry or tissue findings from a photograph.

When to use this tool

Use Gingival Photo Reference Plane Gap when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measuredDistance, referenceScale, suppliedPlaneFactor, comparisonDistance. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read planeDistance, gap. Use the output convention below.

For nonnegative measuredDistance and comparisonDistance and positive referenceScale and suppliedPlaneFactor return planeDistance=measuredDistance*referenceScale*suppliedPlaneFactor and gap=planeDistance-comparisonDistance.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Scale factors must map the photo measurement to the comparison length unit. The supplied plane correction is not estimated from camera geometry, and no clinical recession or attachment interpretation is made.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
