Elaborative Question Builder
Turn caller-supplied causal mechanisms into elaborative why-questions.
Description
Elaborative why-question templates connect a concept with supplied causal mechanisms.
Elaborative why-question templates connect a concept with supplied causal mechanisms. They format existing content without generating or verifying the mechanisms themselves.1
Turn caller-supplied causal mechanisms into elaborative why-questions.
When to use Elaborative Question Builder
Use this tool to turn caller-supplied causal mechanisms into elaborative why-questions.
Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
How to use Elaborative Question Builder and understand its results
- Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
- Enter concept, mechanisms using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read questions, questionCount. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| concept | Concept | string | Required |
| mechanisms | Mechanisms | list of string | Required |
Enter a nonblank concept and mechanism strings with no blank trimmed entries. Trim and deduplicate mechanisms case-sensitively, returning formatted questions and count. An empty mechanism list yields no questions.
question(mechanism)=Why does {mechanism} affect {concept}? Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| questions | Questions | list of string |
| questionCount | Question count | number |

The tool does not correct grammar, establish causation or select pedagogically suitable mechanisms.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Extremely large text inputs are rejected. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Cloze Passage Generator: Generate a cloze passage by deleting every Nth word while preserving punctuation. For a complementary task, use Dual Coding Pair Audit: Audit which verbal concepts have a matching visual representation.
