Dual Coding Pair Audit

Audit which verbal concepts have a matching visual representation.

Description

Dual-coding coverage links concept identifiers with declared visual representations.

Dual-coding coverage links concept identifiers with declared visual representations. Label coverage is separate from checking what the visual communicates.1

Audit which verbal concepts have a matching visual representation.

When to use Dual Coding Pair Audit

Use this tool to audit which verbal concepts have a matching visual representation.

Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.

How to use Dual Coding Pair Audit and understand its results

  1. Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
  2. Enter conceptIds, visualConceptIds using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read pairedIds, missingVisualIds, coveragePercent. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
conceptIdsConcept idslist of stringRequired
visualConceptIdsVisual concept idslist of stringRequired

Enter nonempty distinct exact concepts and visual concept IDs that all belong to the concept list. Deduplicate visual IDs; return paired/missing IDs in concept order and coverage.

coverage%=100 distinct concepts with a visual/conceptCount

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

An empty visual list is allowed. No image, explanation quality or learning benefit is assessed.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Curriculum Standards Alignment: Audit which curriculum standards have lesson alignments and report coverage. For a complementary task, use Assessment Blueprint Coverage: Audit test-item counts against objectives and a caller-selected coverage minimum.
