Curriculum Compacting
Identify mastered pretest objectives eligible for curriculum compacting.
Description
Curriculum compacting screening groups learners by a pretest cutoff.
Curriculum compacting screening groups learners by a pretest cutoff. The classification identifies learners meeting the supplied score criterion.1
Identify mastered pretest objectives eligible for curriculum compacting.
When to use Curriculum Compacting
Use this tool to identify mastered pretest objectives eligible for curriculum compacting.
Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
How to use Curriculum Compacting and understand its results
- Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
- Enter studentIds, pretestScores, masteryCutoff using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read compactIds, reteachIds, compactionPercent. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| studentIds | Student ids | list of string | Required |
| pretestScores | Pretest scores | list of number | Required |
| masteryCutoff | Mastery cutoff | number | Required |
Enter unique nonempty exact learner IDs, aligned pretest percentages and cutoff in 0–100. Return compact/reteach lists preserving roster order and percentage classified compact.
compact=score≥cutoff; percentage=100 compactCount/rosterSize Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| compactIds | Compact ids | list of string |
| reteachIds | Reteach ids | list of string |
| compactionPercent | Compaction percent | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
Despite the summary’s objective wording, outputs classify learners from one score each. Objective-level mastery, replacement activities and suitability for compacting are not assessed.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Readiness Tier Assignments: Assign differentiated activity tiers using current readiness scores. For a complementary task, use Mastery Retry Tracker: Classify student mastery, remaining retry eligibility, and exhausted attempts.
