Cold Call Equity Roster

Choose the least-called learner and measure call-count equity.

Description

Cold-call count balancing selects a learner with the fewest previous calls.

Cold-call count balancing selects a learner with the fewest previous calls. Count spread describes one narrow dimension of participation distribution.1

Choose the least-called learner and measure call-count equity.

When to use Cold Call Equity Roster

Use this tool to choose the least-called learner and measure call-count equity.

Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.

How to use Cold Call Equity Roster and understand its results

  1. Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
  2. Enter studentIds, priorCallCounts using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read nextStudentId, callCountSpread. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
studentIdsStudent idslist of stringRequired
priorCallCountsPrior call countslist of numberRequired

Enter nonempty unique exact learners and aligned nonnegative safe-integer call counts. Return the first minimum-count learner in roster order and spread.

next=first learner with minimum count; spread=max(counts)−min(counts)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No random tie breaking, availability, accommodations or participation quality is considered. Equal counts alone do not establish equitable classroom experience.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Flexible Grouping Roster: Regroup learners by current assessment score into balanced contiguous skill bands. For a complementary task, use Behavior Praise Ratio: Audit behavior-specific praise against a caller-defined praise/correction target.
