Behavior Praise Ratio
Audit behavior-specific praise against a caller-defined praise/correction target.
Description
A praise-to-correction audit compares observations with a selected target.
A praise-to-correction audit compares observations with a selected target. A separate multiplication-based flag can remain defined even when there are no corrections.1
Audit behavior-specific praise against a caller-defined praise/correction target.
When to use Behavior Praise Ratio
Use this tool to audit behavior-specific praise against a caller-defined praise/correction target.
Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
How to use Behavior Praise Ratio and understand its results
- Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
- Enter behaviorSpecificPraiseCount, correctiveFeedbackCount, requiredPraisePerCorrection using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read praiseToCorrectionRatio, meetsTarget. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| behaviorSpecificPraiseCount | Behavior specific praise count | number | Required |
| correctiveFeedbackCount | Corrective feedback count | number | Required |
| requiredPraisePerCorrection | Required praise per correction | number | Required |
Enter nonnegative numeric praise/correction counts and ratio target; fractional counts are accepted. Return the ratio field and inclusive target flag. With zero corrections, ratio is the raw praise count and the flag is true, including both counts zero.
meets=praise≥corrections×target; ratio=corrections=0 ? praise : praise/corrections Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| praiseToCorrectionRatio | Praise to correction ratio | number |
| meetsTarget | Meets target | boolean |

The zero-correction ratio is a placeholder rather than a conventional ratio. Feedback quality, observer reliability and a recommended target are not assessed.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
