Bloom Two Dimension Coverage
Tabulate assessment items across Bloom cognitive and knowledge dimensions.
Description
Two-dimensional assessment coverage crosses cognitive and knowledge categories.
Two-dimensional assessment coverage crosses cognitive and knowledge categories. Counts summarize labels already assigned to items.1
Tabulate assessment items across Bloom cognitive and knowledge dimensions.
When to use Bloom Two Dimension Coverage
Use this tool to tabulate assessment items across Bloom cognitive and knowledge dimensions.
Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
How to use Bloom Two Dimension Coverage and understand its results
- Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
- Enter cognitiveLevels, knowledgeTypes, itemCognitiveLevels, itemKnowledgeTypes using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read coverageMatrix, coveredCells. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| cognitiveLevels | Cognitive levels | list of string | Required |
| knowledgeTypes | Knowledge types | list of string | Required |
| itemCognitiveLevels | Item cognitive levels | list of string | Required |
| itemKnowledgeTypes | Item knowledge types | list of string | Required |
Enter nonempty distinct exact category axes and aligned item labels present on those axes. Return rows in cognitive order, columns in knowledge order and number of occupied cells. Empty item lists give a zero matrix.
matrix[a,b]=count(items labeled cognitive_a AND knowledge_b); coveredCells=count(matrix>0) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| coverageMatrix | Coverage matrix | list of list of number |
| coveredCells | Covered cells | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
No fixed Bloom category dictionary, automatic item classification or required distribution is embedded. Keep axes small enough for matrix output limits.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Assessment Blueprint Coverage: Audit test-item counts against objectives and a caller-selected coverage minimum. For a complementary task, use Curriculum Standards Alignment: Audit which curriculum standards have lesson alignments and report coverage.
