PBO Synergy Ratio
Compare insecticide mortality with and without PBO; a ratio alone does not identify resistance mechanism.
Description
A synergist assay compares insecticide mortality with mortality when a synergist is added.
A synergist assay compares insecticide mortality with mortality when a synergist is added. The ratio and percentage-point gain describe different aspects of the contrast.
The tool returns mortalityRatio (mortality ratio); mortalityGainPoints (mortality gain points); aboveThreshold (above threshold). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.
When to use PBO Synergy Ratio
Use PBO Synergy Ratio when you already have insecticideOnlyMortality, pboMortality, minimumSynergyRatio and want mortalityRatio, mortalityGainPoints, aboveThreshold. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.
How to use PBO Synergy Ratio and understand its results
- Enter insecticideOnlyMortality, pboMortality, minimumSynergyRatio using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
- Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
- Read mortalityRatio, mortalityGainPoints, aboveThreshold. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
- Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type and bounds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| insecticideOnlyMortality | Insecticide only mortality | number | Required |
| pboMortality | Pbo mortality | number | Required |
| minimumSynergyRatio | Minimum synergy ratio | number | Required |
Baseline insecticide mortality must be greater than zero and at most one; combined mortality lies in [0,1]. Flag ratios at or above the positive caller-supplied threshold.
synergy ratio = combinedMortality / insecticideMortality; gain = 100 × (combined − insecticide) The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

This is an unadjusted mortality ratio; assay quality, control corrections and resistance mechanisms are not inferred.
Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.
