Description

Apply a supplied zero/scale calibration to a signed flow trace without clinical interpretation.

Voice and airflow research records use sample rates, frame windows, cycle boundaries, event clocks, unit conversions, and laterality labels. A data-support fraction or signed difference has a specific convention and denominator. These calculations operate on supplied records rather than an audio, respiratory, or vestibular examination.

Apply a supplied zero/scale calibration to a signed flow trace without clinical interpretation.

When to use this tool

Use Nasal Flow Zero Offset Term when you need this sample, frame, cycle, timing, airflow, or laterality component for supplied research records.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measuredFlow, suppliedZeroOffset, scale. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read correctedFlow, reversedSign. Inspect reversedSign before interpreting the associated values.

For positive scale return correctedFlow=(measuredFlow-suppliedZeroOffset)*scale and reversedSign when measuredFlow*(measuredFlow-suppliedZeroOffset)<0.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
measuredFlowMeasured FlowRequired. Finite number.
suppliedZeroOffsetSupplied Zero OffsetRequired. Finite number.
scalePositive source-to-target multiplier under the stated unit convention.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
correctedFlowCorrected FlowRequired. Finite number.
reversedSignProduct-based sign reversal flag; zero and tiny underflow cases can be false.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Flow and zero offset need one source unit and scale maps to target units. Exact zero is not a sign reversal; the flag uses a floating-point product that can underflow for tiny opposite-signed values. No respiratory phase or clinical airflow assessment is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated acquisition and a documented signal-analysis or assessment protocol when a local conversion is insufficient. Verify sample rate, frame boundaries, clock corrections, and record annotations.
