Description

Compare supplied signed research flow with an explicit reference without clinical nasal airflow assessment.

Voice and airflow research records use sample rates, frame windows, cycle boundaries, event clocks, unit conversions, and laterality labels. A data-support fraction or signed difference has a specific convention and denominator. These calculations operate on supplied records rather than an audio, respiratory, or vestibular examination.

Compare supplied signed research flow with an explicit reference without clinical nasal airflow assessment.

When to use this tool

Use Nasal Flow Reference Factor when you need this sample, frame, cycle, timing, airflow, or laterality component for supplied research records.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measuredFlow, suppliedReferenceFlow, scale. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read ratio, scaledDifference. Use the output convention below.

For nonzero suppliedReferenceFlow and positive scale return ratio=measuredFlow/reference and scaledDifference=(measuredFlow-reference)*scale.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
measuredFlowMeasured FlowRequired. Finite number.
suppliedReferenceFlowSupplied Reference FlowRequired. Finite number.
scalePositive source-to-target multiplier under the stated unit convention.Required. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
ratioRatio in the stated direction and unit convention.Required. Finite number.
scaledDifferenceScaled DifferenceRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Reference flow may be signed; ratio direction and signal convention must match. This does not select a normal reference, convert units automatically, or establish nasal patency or a diagnosis.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated acquisition and a documented signal-analysis or assessment protocol when a local conversion is insufficient. Verify sample rate, frame boundaries, clock corrections, and record annotations.
