Description
Reorient a bracket-position difference using a supplied positive-direction sign.
Dental model coordinates depend on scale, reference midlines, laterality and unit conventions. A wire diameter conversion differs from selecting a wire or estimating force, and a planar point distance differs from a complete arch measurement. Appliance labels and local geometry do not choose treatment stages or establish clinically suitable adjustments.
Reorient a bracket-position difference using a supplied positive-direction sign.
When to use this tool
Use Orthodontic Bracket Position Offset when you already have recordedPosition, referencePosition, positiveDirectionSign and need to reorient a bracket-position difference using a supplied positive-direction sign.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter recordedPosition, referencePosition, positiveDirectionSign. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read referencedOffset. Use the output convention below.
Require positiveDirectionSign exactly 1 or -1; return (recordedPosition-referencePosition)*sign.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| recordedPosition | Recorded Position | Required. Finite number. |
| referencePosition | Reference Position | Required. Finite number. |
| positiveDirectionSign | Positive Direction Sign | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| referencedOffset | Referenced Offset | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Positions share a coordinate/unit basis; no suitable bracket location or treatment adjustment is selected.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated dental models and the original coordinate, midline and appliance-plan definitions for a full geometric review. Keep simple unit changes and local offsets separate from choosing a wire, stage, force or treatment adjustment.
