Dental Arch Midline Offset

Reference an explicit dental-arch midline measurement under a supplied right-positive sign convention.

Description

Reorient a dental-midline difference to a right-positive convention.

Dental model coordinates depend on scale, reference midlines, laterality and unit conventions. A wire diameter conversion differs from selecting a wire or estimating force, and a planar point distance differs from a complete arch measurement. Appliance labels and local geometry do not choose treatment stages or establish clinically suitable adjustments.

Reorient a dental-midline difference to a right-positive convention.

When to use this tool

Use Dental Arch Midline Offset when you already have measuredMidline, referenceMidline, positiveIsRight and need to reorient a dental-midline difference to a right-positive convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter measuredMidline, referenceMidline, positiveIsRight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read rightPositiveOffset. Use the output convention below.

Return (measuredMidline-referenceMidline)*(positiveIsRight?1:-1).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
measuredMidlineMeasured MidlineRequired. Finite number.
referenceMidlineReference MidlineRequired. Finite number.
positiveIsRightPositive Is RightRequired. Boolean.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
rightPositiveOffsetRight Positive OffsetRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • No midline, asymmetry, clinical significance or treatment goal is detected or selected.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated dental models and the original coordinate, midline and appliance-plan definitions for a full geometric review. Keep simple unit changes and local offsets separate from choosing a wire, stage, force or treatment adjustment.
