Description
Calculate planar distance between two supplied canine points.
Dental model coordinates depend on scale, reference midlines, laterality and unit conventions. A wire diameter conversion differs from selecting a wire or estimating force, and a planar point distance differs from a complete arch measurement. Appliance labels and local geometry do not choose treatment stages or establish clinically suitable adjustments.
Calculate planar distance between two supplied canine points.
When to use this tool
Use Orthodontic Inter Canine Distance when you already have firstCaninePoint, secondCaninePoint and need to calculate planar distance between two supplied canine points.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter firstCaninePoint, secondCaninePoint. Follow any array-alignment requirements below. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read distance. Use the output convention below.
Require each point array length exactly two; return hypot(secondX-firstX,secondY-firstY).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| firstCaninePoint | First Canine Point | Required. Array of finite number; maximum items 256. |
| secondCaninePoint | Second Canine Point | Required. Array of finite number; maximum items 256. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| distance | Distance | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Assumes a common planar coordinate scale; no dental landmark, scan calibration, arch geometry or clinical interpretation is inferred.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated dental models and the original coordinate, midline and appliance-plan definitions for a full geometric review. Keep simple unit changes and local offsets separate from choosing a wire, stage, force or treatment adjustment.
