Workplace Air Blank Mass Correction Tool

Signed field-blank correction with supplied sample volume and recovery.

Description

Signed field-blank correction with supplied sample volume and recovery.

Occupational exposure calculations combine measured quantities, duration, reference conditions, weighting, and sampling support. Linear concentrations, squared acceleration, and logarithmic sound levels require different arithmetic. A supplied reference or limit is not automatically the applicable standard, and a local calculation is separate from a full exposure and safety assessment.

Signed field-blank correction with supplied sample volume and recovery.

When to use this tool

Use Workplace Air Blank Mass Correction when you need this particular sampling, duration, reference-unit, physical-exposure, or reporting-base term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter preMass, postMass, blankChange, sampledVolume, recovery. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read netMass, recoveredMass, concentration. Use the output convention below.

For positive sampledVolume and recovery in (0,1] return netMass=postMass-preMass-blankChange, recoveredMass=netMass/recovery, and concentration=netMass/(sampledVolume*recovery).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Mass terms need one unit and sampledVolume determines the concentration denominator. Negative blank-corrected masses are retained; recovery, sampling efficiency, analytical validity, exposure limits, and workplace safety are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete hazard-specific assessment with calibrated measurements and the appropriate exposure model. Verify reference conditions, sampling coverage, weighting, denominator, and the applicable professional or regulatory method.
