Description

Compare a supplied task load and uncertainty against a caller-established limit.

Occupational exposure calculations combine measured quantities, duration, reference conditions, weighting, and sampling support. Linear concentrations, squared acceleration, and logarithmic sound levels require different arithmetic. A supplied reference or limit is not automatically the applicable standard, and a local calculation is separate from a full exposure and safety assessment.

Compare a supplied task load and uncertainty against a caller-established limit.

When to use this tool

Use Manual Task Explicit Load Limit Gap when you need this particular sampling, duration, reference-unit, physical-exposure, or reporting-base term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter actualLoad, suppliedLimit, measurementHalfwidth. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read nominalMargin, conservativeMargin, exceeds, uncertain. Inspect exceeds, uncertain before interpreting the associated values.

For nonnegative actualLoad, suppliedLimit, and measurementHalfwidth return nominalMargin=limit-load and conservativeMargin=limit-load-halfwidth. Set exceeds only if load-halfwidth>limit and uncertain when load-halfwidth<=limit but load+halfwidth>limit.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Load, limit, and halfwidth need one unit. Exceeds means the full supplied interval is above the limit, not simply the nominal value; halfwidth is not a fitted confidence interval and the caller-supplied limit does not establish ergonomic safety or legal compliance.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a complete hazard-specific assessment with calibrated measurements and the appropriate exposure model. Verify reference conditions, sampling coverage, weighting, denominator, and the applicable professional or regulatory method.
