Home Task Workspace Clearance Gap Tool

Calculate home task workspace clearance gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

For nonnegative openingWidth, objectWidth, handMargin, and alignmentUncertainty return nominalClearance=opening-object, usableClearance=nominal-2*handMargin-2*uncertainty, and fits when nominal>=2*(handMargin+uncertainty).

Activity and assistive-task records distinguish planned, attempted, completed, assisted, observed, and optional components. Shares depend on the selected denominator and credit policy. A supplied code, geometry, or time-budget calculation is separate from evaluating an individual's function or safe access.

For nonnegative openingWidth, objectWidth, handMargin, and alignmentUncertainty return nominalClearance=opening-object, usableClearance=nominal-2*handMargin-2*uncertainty, and fits when nominal>=2*(handMargin+uncertainty).

When to use this tool

Use Home Task Workspace Clearance Gap when you need this specific task-count, assistance-code, timing, equipment-budget, or participation-record component.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter openingWidth, objectWidth, handMargin, alignmentUncertainty. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read nominalClearance, usableClearance, fits. Inspect fits before interpreting the associated values.

For nonnegative openingWidth, objectWidth, handMargin, and alignmentUncertainty return nominalClearance=opening-object, usableClearance=nominal-2*handMargin-2*uncertainty, and fits when nominal>=2*(handMargin+uncertainty).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use one length unit. The symmetric static-width model does not account for depth, turning, grip posture, movement, individual capability, or safe workspace design.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended assessment and a complete task or access model when a local check is insufficient. Verify task definitions, credit policies, measurement units, and the context of the underlying observations.
