Icmpv6 Router Lifetime Remainder Tool

Compute icmpv6 router lifetime remainder from explicit bounded inputs.

Description

Subtract elapsedSeconds from advertisedLifetime with a zero floor.

Protocol timers compare elapsed time with advertised deadlines. Inclusive expiry tests, renewal thresholds, and signed timer gaps answer different questions and should not be conflated.

Subtract elapsedSeconds from advertisedLifetime with a zero floor.

When to use this tool

Use Icmpv6 Router Lifetime Remainder when you need an explicit lease or advertisement timer calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter advertisedLifetime, elapsedSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read remainingSeconds, withdraw, expired. Inspect withdraw, expired before interpreting the associated values.

Subtract elapsedSeconds from advertisedLifetime with a zero floor. Set withdraw for an advertised zero and expired when elapsed time reaches the lifetime.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All durations are seconds; elapsed time and advertisement relevance must be supplied externally.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Track the actual protocol state and monotonic clock, then apply the protocol's transition rules.
