Dhcpv4 Lease Renewal Age Gap Tool

Compute dhcpv4 lease renewal age gap from explicit bounded inputs.

Description

Compare ageSeconds against renewalSeconds and leaseSeconds using inclusive thresholds.

Protocol timers compare elapsed time with advertised deadlines. Inclusive expiry tests, renewal thresholds, and signed timer gaps answer different questions and should not be conflated.

Compare ageSeconds against renewalSeconds and leaseSeconds using inclusive thresholds.

When to use this tool

Use Dhcpv4 Lease Renewal Age Gap when you need an explicit lease or advertisement timer calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter leaseSeconds, renewalSeconds, ageSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read renewalDue, leaseExpired, untilRenewal. Inspect renewalDue, leaseExpired before interpreting the associated values.

Compare ageSeconds against renewalSeconds and leaseSeconds using inclusive thresholds. Return renewalDue, leaseExpired, and a zero-floored untilRenewal in seconds.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Renewal may equal lease expiration; this does not schedule DHCP actions or infer default timers.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Track the actual protocol state and monotonic clock, then apply the protocol's transition rules.
