Description

Subtract suppliedClockOffset and suppliedBirthHour from eventHour to obtain elapsedHours.

Age is a difference between an event and a selected origin. Gestational, chronological, corrected, and source-record coordinates can differ even when expressed in the same time unit.

Subtract suppliedClockOffset and suppliedBirthHour from eventHour to obtain elapsedHours.

When to use this tool

Use Research Postnatal Hour Offset when you need to compare explicit age origins or recorded time coordinates.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter eventHour, suppliedBirthHour, suppliedClockOffset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read elapsedHours. Use the output convention below.

Subtract suppliedClockOffset and suppliedBirthHour from eventHour to obtain elapsedHours.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All three values must use the same hour scale; negative elapsed ages are allowed and no timezone rules are inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Keep the original timestamps and age definitions, and confirm the intended convention with the relevant clinical or research protocol.
