Pulp Solid Percentage
Express pulp solid mass percent and water/solid ratio from dry solid and water masses; not a volumetric solid fraction.
Description
Solids mass percentage divides dry solids by the total solid-plus-water mass.
Solids mass percentage divides dry solids by the total solid-plus-water mass. Water-to-solids ratio uses dry solids alone as denominator.
The tool returns solidMassPercent (solid mass percent); waterSolidMassRatio (water solid mass ratio). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.
When to use Pulp Solid Percentage
Use Pulp Solid Percentage when you already have drySolidTonnes, waterTonnes and want solidMassPercent, waterSolidMassRatio. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.
How to use Pulp Solid Percentage and understand its results
- Enter drySolidTonnes, waterTonnes using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
- Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
- Read solidMassPercent, waterSolidMassRatio. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
- Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type and bounds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| drySolidTonnes | Dry solid tonnes | number | Required |
| waterTonnes | Water tonnes | number | Required |
Require positive dry-solid mass and nonnegative water mass, both in tonnes.
solids% = 100×drySolids/(drySolids+water); water/solids = water/drySolids The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

This is mass percentage, not volume percentage. Dissolved solids, entrained air and additional phases are excluded.
Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Pulp Density: Calculate ideal mixture density and solids volume fraction with additive component volumes; gas entrainment and volume contraction are excluded. Pulp Percent Solids From Density: Invert additive-volume pulp density to solid mass percent/volume fraction; measured density must lie between distinct component densities.
