Pulp Percent Solids From Density

Invert additive-volume pulp density to solid mass percent/volume fraction; measured density must lie between distinct component densities.

Description

A two-phase pulp density can be inverted to a solids volume fraction when the component densities differ.

A two-phase pulp density can be inverted to a solids volume fraction when the component densities differ. Multiplying volume fraction by solid density then gives mass fraction.

The tool returns inferredSolidMassPercent (inferred solid mass percent); inferredSolidVolumeFraction (inferred solid volume fraction). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.

When to use Pulp Percent Solids From Density

Use Pulp Percent Solids From Density when you already have measuredPulpDensityKgPerM3, solidDensityKgPerM3, liquidDensityKgPerM3 and want inferredSolidMassPercent, inferredSolidVolumeFraction. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.

How to use Pulp Percent Solids From Density and understand its results

  1. Enter measuredPulpDensityKgPerM3, solidDensityKgPerM3, liquidDensityKgPerM3 using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
  2. Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
  3. Read inferredSolidMassPercent, inferredSolidVolumeFraction. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
  4. Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.
Input fieldMeaningValue type and boundsRequirement
measuredPulpDensityKgPerM3Measured pulp density kg per m3numberRequired
solidDensityKgPerM3Solid density kg per m3numberRequired
liquidDensityKgPerM3Liquid density kg per m3numberRequired

Use positive distinct component densities and a measured density lying between them. Return volume fraction and mass percentage.

phi = (pulpDensity−liquidDensity)/(solidDensity−liquidDensity); solids% = 100×phi×solidDensity/pulpDensity

The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

Limitations and assumptions

Additive volumes and two phases are assumed. Entrained air, dissolved material and density-measurement errors are not corrected.

Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Pulp Density: Calculate ideal mixture density and solids volume fraction with additive component volumes; gas entrainment and volume contraction are excluded. Pulp Solid Percentage: Express pulp solid mass percent and water/solid ratio from dry solid and water masses; not a volumetric solid fraction.
