Description
Divide positive artifactLength by positive modelLength for impliedScaleDenominator, then subtract declaredScaleDenominator.
A scale ratio relates a representation's length to the corresponding real length. Converting a tolerance through that ratio does not establish the accuracy of the underlying survey or artifact.
Divide positive artifactLength by positive modelLength for impliedScaleDenominator, then subtract declaredScaleDenominator.
When to use this tool
Use Museum Object Model Scale Gap when you need a linear scale or tolerance conversion.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter artifactLength, modelLength, declaredScaleDenominator. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read impliedScaleDenominator, denominatorGap. Use the output convention below.
Divide positive artifactLength by positive modelLength for impliedScaleDenominator, then subtract declaredScaleDenominator.1

| impliedScaleDenominator | Implied Scale Denominator | Required. Finite number. |
| denominatorGap | Denominator Gap | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Lengths must use the same unit; no manufacturing tolerance or historical authenticity is assessed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Compare independent measurements and their uncertainty rather than treating nominal scale as proof of accuracy.
