Description
Divide positive modelLength by actualLength for scaleFraction and reverse the division for scaleDenominator.
A scale ratio relates a representation's length to the corresponding real length. Converting a tolerance through that ratio does not establish the accuracy of the underlying survey or artifact.
Divide positive modelLength by actualLength for scaleFraction and reverse the division for scaleDenominator.
When to use this tool
Use Museum Equipment Display Scale when you need a linear scale or tolerance conversion.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter modelLength, actualLength. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read scaleFraction, scaleDenominator. Use the output convention below.
Divide positive modelLength by actualLength for scaleFraction and reverse the division for scaleDenominator.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| modelLength | Model Length | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| actualLength | Actual Length | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| scaleFraction | Scale Fraction | Required. Finite number. |
| scaleDenominator | Scale Denominator | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use matching length units; enlargement is allowed and no model accuracy is established.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Compare independent measurements and their uncertainty rather than treating nominal scale as proof of accuracy.
