Description
Multiply nonnegative chartTolerance by positive scaleDenominator and suppliedChartUnitInMeters to obtain groundToleranceMeters.
A scale ratio relates a representation's length to the corresponding real length. Converting a tolerance through that ratio does not establish the accuracy of the underlying survey or artifact.
Multiply nonnegative chartTolerance by positive scaleDenominator and suppliedChartUnitInMeters to obtain groundToleranceMeters.
When to use this tool
Use Chart Scale Ground Tolerance when you need a linear scale or tolerance conversion.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter chartTolerance, scaleDenominator, suppliedChartUnitInMeters. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read groundToleranceMeters. Use the output convention below.

} Limitations and assumptions
- This linear scale conversion does not estimate chart accuracy, projection distortion, or positional uncertainty.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Compare independent measurements and their uncertainty rather than treating nominal scale as proof of accuracy.
