Birth Record Time Precision Span Tool

Summarize a supplied birth-record timestamp uncertainty envelope without inferring an exact event time.

Description

Multiply the interval width and its midpoint by positive suppliedUnitFactor.

Age is a difference between an event and a selected origin. Gestational, chronological, corrected, and source-record coordinates can differ even when expressed in the same time unit.

Multiply the interval width and its midpoint by positive suppliedUnitFactor.

When to use this tool

Use Birth Record Time Precision Span when you need to compare explicit age origins or recorded time coordinates.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter earliestTime, latestTime, suppliedUnitFactor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read width, midpoint. Use the output convention below.

Require earliestTime ≤ latestTime. Multiply the interval width and its midpoint by positive suppliedUnitFactor.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
earliestTimeEarliest TimeRequired. Finite number.
latestTimeLatest TimeRequired. Finite number.
suppliedUnitFactorSupplied Unit FactorRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The midpoint is a scaled coordinate, not merely half the width; timezone and calendar conversion are outside scope.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Keep the original timestamps and age definitions, and confirm the intended convention with the relevant clinical or research protocol.
