Benign Biofilm Stained Area Share Tool

Descriptive stain-positive visible-area fraction for supplied benign-sample segmentation, not a viability or microbial load estimate.

Description

Subtract backgroundFalsePositiveArea from stainedArea and occludedArea from observedArea.

A share divides an included amount by a declared total. An empty total is mathematically different from an observed zero share and may require an explicit availability flag.

Subtract backgroundFalsePositiveArea from stainedArea and occludedArea from observedArea.

When to use this tool

Use Benign Biofilm Stained Area Share when you need a proportion with a clearly defined denominator.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter stainedArea, backgroundFalsePositiveArea, observedArea, occludedArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read correctedArea, visibleArea, coverage. Use the output convention below.

Subtract backgroundFalsePositiveArea from stainedArea and occludedArea from observedArea. Divide corrected by visible area, requiring stained area within the visible region.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All areas must use one basis; background and occlusion estimates are supplied, and staining is not proof of living biomass.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the underlying counts or quantities and report missing-denominator cases separately when aggregating results.
